Our History

Lagasse, Inc. (also known as “LagasseSweet”) is a wholly owned subsidiary of United Stationers Inc., the nation’s largest wholesale distributor of office supplies, furniture, computer peripherals, jansan, foodservice disposables, paper, industrial supplies, safety products, and e-business technology solutions. United Stationers was incorporated as Utility Supply Company in 1922, and taken public as United Stationers Inc. in 1981.

First established as a mop manufacturer in 1947 in a New Orleans garage, brothers Errol and Clint Lagasse grew their business steadily, eventually transitioning to wholesale in 1971 after recognizing a need in the jansan industry. Due to their reputation of quality service and additional product lines, Lagasse Brothers, Inc. opened 3 new locations outside of Louisiana in 1986, and added 10 more distribution centers in 1990. This allowed for entry into new market segments such as foodservice, paper, industrial and safety.

United Stationers acquired Lagasse in 1996 when Lagasse operated 14 warehouses. In 2001 Lagasse acquired Peerless Paper Mills which greatly increased the Lagasse presence in the Northeastern United States.

In 2005, Lagasse acquired Sweet Paper, Inc., a storied firm with more than 50 years experience serving the foodservice, paper and jansan industries. Sweet Paper provided Lagasse with strength in the foodservice and paper business, with access to dozens of leading suppliers and a loyal regional base of more than 15,000 customers in the Southern U.S.

To further diversify and expand its product and customer base, United Stationers acquired ORS Nasco , wholesale distributor of industrial supplies in 2007. In 2010, United Stationers acquired MBS Dev, a certified reseller of the Microsoft Dynamics AX software solution for business products resellers. These acquisitions allowed the USI family to add industrial supplies, safety products and e-business technology solutions to an already impressive portfolio of office supplies, furniture, computer peripherals, jansan, foodservice disposables and paper supplies.

Today, LagasseSweet stands out from its competitors by offering its distributors a broad product portfolio from some of the world’s premier manufacturers. LagasseSweet’s 30 distribution centers provide the convenience of same-day pick-up with flexible will-call service. Further, LagasseSweet’s affiliation with United Stationers allows it to leverage one of the largest dedicated fleets in the industry in order to provide next day service to over 99% of the business addresses in the United States, including drop ship capabilities.
